fantastic sitcoms on satellite television

Posted by Jonathon Murphy

Without a television set in the living room, where does all the furniture point to? This was a quote from the fantastic sitcom ‘Friends’, said by the infamous character named Joey. He is the main actor in the sitcom and the fabulous sayings he comes out with are totally of the chart yet simple to comprehend. Joey is the butt of most jokes in the show but he delivers some of the best punch lines ever heard on TV. He has two main obsessions in life, one is food and the other is women, I am not saying he is shallow but his character could never drown. In the show he plays an actor who starred in a sitcom ‘Days of our lives’ in which he played a doctor.

The kids and I usually watch the show before we go to football on Saturday and at every opportunity that we get. We sit in front of the television and watch all of the best sitcoms and shows via satellite TV, that I got after seeing these direc4u.com, only as the vast array of programs available is awesome. In the show ‘Friends’, Joey lives opposite Monica who is a control freak and lives with Phoebe who is a free spirit with a rather dizzy attitude. The whole show is based around the two flats and a cafe called Central Perk.

Politics and Cybersquatting – Domain Theft?

Although it has been around for quite some time, the internet is still a new and evolving frontier. It extends across continental boundaries, from the United States to China and back again. Lawyers are still trying to sort out what should be legal and what is deemed a crime. For example, there are gray areas surrounding the concept of cybersquatting and whether it constitutes theft.

Domain theft law is still relatively new and there are few experts emerging in this field of legal studies. Large companies fight to garner control of domain names that contain their trademarks, while wanna-be millionaires squat on them hoping for a big payday. Is cybers-quatting morally incorrect? Perhaps. But the people doing it don’t seem to think so.

Politics and Uniforms: White Lab Coats

In this multi-part series in the politics behind medical and other official uniforms, we examine the perception that people have of others in cotton lab coats. You might say that we are all blinded by the schema set forth from the first day we open our eyes to the final day when we shut them. We are taught that men wearing white coats donning stethoscopes are doctors, there to help us when we are ill. We’re taught that men wearing blue pin-striped suits donning little US flag pins on their lapels are the leaders of the free world. And, we are taught that men wearing white lab coats are conducting research for the betterment of mankind.

These perceptions cause us to make decisions and judgment calls. In a split second, we decide whether to place our trust in a complete stranger and that trust is based entirely on what they are wearing. Hollywood makes movies all the time about government spies in disguise infiltrating foreign governments and hospitals to extract people of interest. Who wouldn’t trust a woman wearing one of these in your local hospital?

They say marketing is all about packaging, and the same holds true for marketing a person and the job he or she does. A politician with the right packaging will get votes. A scientist who selects the right lab coat will get a grant, and a nurse wearing the right scrubs will gain the much needed trust of a patient.

Hospitals and Politics

Hospitals are like any other corporate entity when it comes to politics. You have to know the right people to get ahead, say the right things, do the right things. It’s a fact of life… the art of the schmooze. In many organizations you even have the politics of fashion. In corporate, this is addressed by shirt style, the brand monogrammed on your handbag or embossed in your shoes. And in hospitals it could be something as unusual as whether you wear Cherokee medical uniforms or some other type.

Silly? Perhaps but then so are so many other customs. Don’t get me wrong, Cherokee uniforms are amazing – I sleep in a set of them every night. But, it’s odd that there would be politics about such things. And yet it makes sense – people judge you by how you look and what you wear. Are your clothes high quality? Or are you wearing tattered old scrubs because you just don’t care anymore?

You could be principled and say no to playing the political game. Or you could do what serves you best – conform a little and wear the higher quality, trendier hospital uniforms. Yes, in some ways it is selling out but then, is it really such a big deal to change a few things around that open up more doors for success? Think about it.

George Clooney, Charity and Politics

George Clooney

George Clooney (IMDB)

It’s amazing how actors go from the Silver Screen to the White House. People aren’t interested in law degrees and experience in the public sector. They want leaders – social influencers – people who can move mountains and fly through the sky thanks to Hollywood magic. Guys like Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Clint Eastwood. Presidents like Barack Obama. Confident visionaries like George Clooney.

But, Clooney doesn’t want to enter the world of politics. Us Magazine posed the question and Clooney’s response was, “I think that I am best suited as an advocate for issues and I look to people who are far smarter and far better at this than I am to lead.” Well said, George.

George Clooney is an altruistic man. He believes in supporting charity and he has posed the question that there must be a better way to improve the world that we live in. Perhaps he should align himself with a web 2.0 website like UTa.gs (you-tags) that uses the common twitter trend of URL shortening to raise money for charities. In any case, the world of politics does not need another actor who can change the world based on a single decision. We commend Clooney for his mission in life, and of course his fine acting. And no, those people aren’t smarter than you George, they’re just suited for something different.

WikiLeaks on the run

A political battle ensues and the gray area between what is legal and what is illegal online when it comes to freedom of speech. Wiki Leaks has been all over the news for publishing thousands of classified documents online and possibly jeopardizing the security of the United States and the lives of its agents and military personnel across the globe. Supporters of WikiLeaks who call themselves “Anonymous” mirrored the whistle-blower website all over Internet to make censorship virtually impossible, while the United States put pressure on Switzerland not to offer a haven to the website’s founder, Julian Assange. The American ambassador to Switzerland, Donald S. Beyer Jr. made the cautionary remark that the Swiss “should very carefully consider whether to provide shelter to someone who is on the run from the law.”
Since the release of more than 250,000 classified documents by WikiLeaks, the Web site has been hit by cyber-attacks and has been dropped by their payment processor, Paypal thereby limiting its ability to collect donations, and had its hosting dropped by Amazon.
